I have been dying to give Ocean Saver a review. However, I can be sensitive to laundry detergents and so I don’t rush reviews like this to give them solid use. I also want to see how well they wash all different clothes and dirt load.
We bought a bulk box of the Ocean Saver non bio laundry detergents ecocaps and have used them for over a year now. The packaging is cardboard and the detergent itself is gel pods, that ocean saver call ecocaps, that you throw into the machine with your washing, so it’s pre portioned out so you don’t overfill the tray, a known issue with pourable liquids that means you use too much. It's really quick and efficient, there is really not much to be said for their usage as it's extremely easy to use the Ocean Saver ecocaps.
The price efficiency of the ecocaps depends on usage. I do a wash about twice a week, I wash quick and on cold. So this makes washes cheap overall, and washing less often means I'm personally happy to spend more on an eco product as the cost is spread over months. The pod/ ecocap format also helps keep costs down, basically rationing out the quantity used. Again, I really enjoy the pod format, I just chuck one in from the box, really simple.
I absolutely love the scent, which is minimal, fresh and clean. I’m not keen on strongly scented detergents, I have found the longer I spend using 'clean' products or those with less scent, the less I tend to like strong smells. So the smell on the Ocean Saver ecocap is a really good balance, there is a scent there and my clothes smell clean, but it's not too overpowering.
My clothes certainly seem clean coming out from their cold, short wash, which is really putting the detergent under test. I am impressed these work under the pressure of cold quick cycles, whilst also being an eco product. It makes them an easy product to use that doesn't require any changes to my wash system. They don't, however, seem to remove stains under the rapid cold wash system I use, but this is not surprising, as stains really need a bit more TLC, and the pods shouldn't really be judged on my laziness of trying to stain remove in conditions that don't equate to stain removal. Really, props to them that I gave it a go.
My mum is less sensitive to changes in detergents and to bio detergents, and has been really enjoying the Ocean Saver Bio laundry sheets, another great way to save waste/ plastic. I do prefer the pod system though. They are more shelf stable in my opinion.
Overall, I am really impressed with the Ocean Saver non bio pods. I will be actively purchasing Ocean Saver laundry detergent again amongst other choices I love.
